One of Christian Surfers’ strategies to fulfil our vision of spreading the word of God to every surfer and surfing community is to actively support the surf industry by volunteering at various events along our coast. This involvement allows Christian Surfers South Africa to build a positive reputation as an organization dedicated to enhancing the growth of surfing in our country. By collaborating and forming friendships with industry leaders, event organizers, local board riders, coaches, athletes, and their families, we aim to demonstrate the servant heart of Jesus and share His love within the surfing community.
Our role at these contests entails dedicated and sometimes challenging work hours. We, as Christian Surfers South Africa, are committed to delivering the highest quality of service. However, we believe that while hard work is important, it is not what truly transforms lives. We view these contests as a mission opportunity—an outreach to connect with surfers and trust God to meet them where they are. Throughout the contest, we emphasize unity within our group and in Christ. Prayer and communal living are essential parts of our outreach, which often means early morning prayers at the contest site, evening devotionals, and shared meals.
We maintain a non-alcoholic beverage policy for our team members during each contest. We encourage early nights to ensure everyone is rested for long hours of work on the beach, allowing us to give our best. Additionally, to foster a respectful environment, no dating or physical contact between girls and guys is allowed during the service event.
Before any contest begins, we will clearly outline the expectations for each team member. If team leaders or contest organizers feel that you aren’t contributing adequately or not adhering to these guiding principles, you may be asked to leave the team.
If you’re amped about the vision and want to serve at an event with these principles in mind, please fill out the application form below.
